ABOUT FOUNDATION General Information Animal Programs Foundation is a national animal advocacy and education organization based in Sofia. Animal Programs provides adequate advice on pet population management to the Bulgarian authority. Animal Programs’ mission is to enhance general public awareness within Bulgaria in most important animal welfare issues by writting comments on current local situation and the progress abroad. Animal Programs is also known for providing content in English language to the media. These days, Animal Programs is also an animal advocacy organization who provides substantial information in English through its website. Remaining unbiased and independent is extremely important to Animal Programs. For example, Animal Programs is completely led by its founder and does not depend on corporations, government, or any other groups which could influence its position and activity. Formation The Animal Programs Foundation of Bulgaria is a non-profit organization registered by Sofia City Court. It was founded on June 12, 2003 by Emil Dimitrov Kuzmanov. Since 1999, Kuzmanov taken care on a total of nine abandoned companion animals (tree cats, а mixed-breed dog, а Giant Schnauzer, two Cocker Spaniels, Pekingese, and а German Shepherd). Meanwhile, in 2001, the number of Kuzmanov's family cat colony peaked at thirty-five. All that led him to dedicate his life to preventing the companion animal overpopulation crisis spread across the country. Aims Enhancing welfare status of total cat and dog population in Bulgaria by providing reliable owners, good health and normal lifespan for every companion animal bred and born. Mission The purpose of Animal Programs is to raise public awareness and change humane attitude toward pet population problems in Bulgaria; to work for improving and enforcing legislation, providing humane education and adequate animal services. |
